Ethan Hawke lights up the screen as jazz legend Chet Baker, in the 1950s one of the most famous trumpeters in the world, both pioneer of the West Coast jazz scene and icon of cool. By the 1960s he was washed up, his career and personal life wrecked by years of heroin addiction. This innovative “anti-biopic” focuses on a key moment in the 60s, as the musician attempts a hard-fought comeback, spurred in part by a passionate romance with a new flame (Carmen Ejogo). Creatively blending fact and fiction and driven by Hawke’s virtuoso performance, the film unfolds with the stylistic brio and improvisatory dazzle of great jazz. With Callum Keith Rennie. Composer/Arranger: David Braid. Writer/Producer/Director: Robert Budreau. (Canada 2015) 98 min.
