This new documentary recounts the life of Srila Prabhupada, the 70-year-old Indian Swami who arrived in New York City in 1965 without money or support. It explores how, during this turbulent era of American history, he ignited the worldwide cultural revolution of spiritual consciousness known as the Hare Krishna movement. Using archival footage and the recorded words of this unlikely and controversial revolutionary, the film takes us behind the scenes of a cultural movement born in the artistic and intellectual scene of New York’s Bowery and the hippie mecca of Haight Ashbury, as well as Beatlemania-era London, to meet the Swami who started it all. Writer: Jean Griesser. Co-Directors: Jean Griesser, Lauren Ross. Producer/Director: John Griesser. (US 2017) 90 min.
