At a ramshackle log cabin in the harsh Indiana wilderness of 1817, the rhythms of love, tragedy and hardship shaped one of our nation’s greatest heroes, Abraham Lincoln. Produced by Terrence Malick and directed by a frequent collaborator, this poetic film immerses us in the primitive world of Lincoln the boy (Braydon Denney) and his relationships with his father Tom (Jason Clarke), his mother Nancy (Brit Marling) and stepmother Sarah (Diane Kruger). The women nurture his spiritual and scholarly hunger, while the local schoolteacher (Wes Bentley) takes notice of him. Sparse dialogue and stunning black-and-white photography make this a beautiful meditation on the seeds of greatness. Writer/Director: A.J. Edwards. (US 2014) 94 min.
