Beginning with statistics citing 20% of Israel’s population as Arab, filmmaker Eran Riklis (Lemon Tree, The Syrian Bride) unfolds an engrossing drama about Eyad (Tawfeek Barhom), a gifted Palestinian-Israeli boy who is given the opportunity to attend a prestigious Jewish university in Jerusalem. Set during the turbulent period of the First Intifada and first Gulf War in the 1990s, this exceptional film explores Eyad’s crisis of identity as an Arab and Israeli, and the choices he is compelled to make, as he navigates between friends and family and falls in love with fellow student Naomi. In Hebrew and Arabic with English subtitles. With Yaël Abecassis, Ali Suliman, Michael Moshonov, Daniel Kitsis. Writer: Sayed Kashua, based on his novel Dancing Arabs. Director: Eran Riklis. (Israel 2014) 104 min.
