To celebrate National Nurses Day, we present the new film The American Nurse: Healing America, followed by a panel discussion. This is a heartwarming documentary giving voice to nurses serving the front lines of the biggest issues facing America- aging, war, poverty, prison- through the work and lives of five nurses. Director: Carolyn Jones. (US 2014) 81 min. plus discussion.

Did you know… National Nurses Day is celebrated annually on May 6 in the US and marks the beginning of National Nurses Week, which ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale. International Nurses Day, however, is celebrated around the world on May 12.

This presentation is part of Science on Screen, a series pairing film screenings with lively scientific discussions. The series is made possible by a grant from the Coolidge Corner Theatre and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
