“The latest ravishing visual feast from Victor Kossakovsky, Russia’s most poetic formalist filmmaker at the moment, Aquarelatakes a deep dive into watery realms around the world, offering up an experience that can truly be described as immersive.” – The Hollywood Reporter

Aquarela is a spectacular, epic, raw, and thunderous journey around the globe to bear witness to the awesome power of water. Shot at an astonishingly high rate of 96 frames-per-second, the film is deeply cinematic, immersive, and experiential, dramatically illustrating water’s equal capacity for destruction and life force. Iconoclastic Russian documentarian Viktor Kossakovsky and crew travel from the precarious frozen waters of Russia’s Lake Baikal to the recent destruction wrought by the failure of California’s Oroville Dam, to Hurricane Irma storming the shores of Miami Beach, capturing the shifting identities of water in riotous action and delicate repose. Fiercely lyrical and sensory, the film is scored by Finnish cello-metal band Apocalyptica, showcasing the world’s water for its ecstatic, awe-inspiring, and precious nature. We fragile humans experience life and death, joy and despair in the face of its majestic power. Director Viktor Kossakovsky (US 2019) 89 min
