As the Allies march toward Paris in the summer of 1944, Hitler orders its greatest monuments destroyed so that nothing would remain of the city’s former glory. Swedish Consul General Raoul Nordling (André Dussollier) visits General Dietrich von Choltitz (Niels Arestrup), the Wehrmacht commander of Greater Paris, to appeal to his humanity and dissuade him from this act. Master filmmaker Volker Schlöndorff (The Tin Drum) adapts Cyril Gély’s French stage success into a passionate and psychological duel of political manners. In French and German with English subtitles.
