100% FRESH ON ROTTEN TOMATOES | CRITICS’ CHOICE FOR ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF 2020
“No film this year better symbolized the need for kindness, compassion and connection than Andrew Ahn’s warm, embracing indie release.”
– Randy Myers, Mercury News
“…A sweet, understated masterpiece, simply told …”
G. Allen Johnson, SF Chronicle
Director Andrew Ahn’s intimate drama revolves around the unlikely friendship formed between a lonely young boy (Lucas Jaye) and his new octogenarian neighbor (Brian Dennehy, in one of his final performances). As his mother (Hong Chau, Downsizing) looks on, he provides the widowed veteran with a youthful outlook and begins to discover a newfound maturity within himself. Nominated for two Independent Spirit Awards, Driveways is a beautifully observed, bittersweet drama about our lifelong search for a sense of community. With a genuine script and impeccable acting, this little gem doesn’t coax tears, but earns them. In English. Not Rated. Director: Andrew Ahn (US 2019) 83 min.
