The Smith Rafael Film Center welcomes the 17th Annual International Ocean Film Festival. The mission of the IOFF is to save our oceans one film at a time. Since its inception in 2004, each year the IOFF features a four-day ocean en- gagement event for audiences from around the world. Through the power of visual storytelling and independent films, audiences of all ages are inspired to become better ocean stewards, and help to protect our oceans.

OCTOPUS: MAKING CONTACT
An octopus certainly does not look like us, but looks can be deceiving. David Scheel, our professorial guide, sets up an aquarium in his home for a Simea, which is active in daytime, so he can find out how like us it actually is. “Heidi” has three hearts, 240 suckers that both taste and touch, and blue blood, but also looks right back when looked at, a very human trait.
