A coast-to-coast journey of two washed-up skateboard buddies forms the catalyst for this hilarious hybrid of documentary and fiction across a tumultuous, turbulent USA! Robert Boerleider (playing a fictionalized version of himself) is a Dutch-Surinamese jokester from Amsterdam who wants nothing more than to finally see America. His old buddy Maximon Monihan, raised in Seattle but living in Brooklyn, is much more cynical about his homeland. As serendipity would have it, Monihan’s mother has just gifted him her old car, provided that he’s willing to pick it up in California. Monihan calls his friend to let him know the good news and, shortly thereafter, they drive East together, set on making Boerleider’s dream road-trip a reality. Hitch a ride on this deadpan expedition through the disheveled states of all things red, white and blue! Director: Maximon Monihan (US/Amsterdam 2017) 85 min.

MAXIMON MONIHAN‘s debut, La voz de los silenciados, was released theatrically in 2016 by Factory 25. Sea to Shining Sea premiered at Thessaloniki International Film Festival last November and screened in Montreal (at the Festival du nouveau cinéma) thereafter. It opens in Seattle next week at Northwest Film Forum (NWFF). Monihan currently resides in New York though he grew-up in Seattle and has lived in Santa Cruz (where he has a degree from UCSC). Before becoming a filmmaker, he was a professional skateboarder and starred in a number of skateboarding films. Monihan and Matheiken are currently in pre-production on their latest project, shooting relatively soon in Japan.
