In this lively adaptation of Kevin Wilson’s best-selling novel, Nicole Kidman and Jason Bateman play siblings for whom a family reunion is the furthest thing from their wishes. Annie and Baxter’s parents are Caleb and Camille Fang- radical, subversive performance artists (played by Christopher Walken and Maryann Plunkett)- who used to incorporate their children as performers (or pawns) in their prank-like projects that annoyed the public and delighted the avant-garde. However, when Caleb and Camille go missing, and there is evidence of foul play, Annie is convinced this is yet another Fang performance and that their parents have faked their deaths to create another bizarre work of art. Adapted for the screen by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Davis Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole), this funny, fanciful yet heartfelt film was produced by Kidman and directed by Bateman. Rated R. With Kathryn Hahn. Music: Carter Burwell. Director: Jason Bateman. (US 2015) 105 min.
