This drama of triumph over adversity recounts the incredible true story of Mohammed Assaf (played by Tawfeek Barhom from A Borrowed Identity). Growing up with his sister Nour in Gaza- to many, synonymous with conflict, destruction and despair- he acquires second-hand, dilapidated instruments to form a band that showcases Mohammed’s extraordinary singing. Starting small but dreaming big, Mohammed and friends experience tragedy and loss, but a television program provides an ultimate goal: the most popular show in the Arab world, Arab Idol. When auditions for the program are to take place in Cairo, Mohammed is determined to break out of his prison and give voice to a voiceless people. Can he make it in front of the judges and realize his destiny? In Arabic with English subtitles. Director: Hany Abu-Assad. (Palestine 2015) 95 min.
