Winner at Sundance of a Special Jury Prize for Acting, this acclaimed Brazilian drama stars Regina Casé in an endearing performance as Val, a hard-working, live-in housekeeper in contemporary Sao Paolo. For years Val has quietly managed the home and meals for her wealthy employers, as well as their teenage son Fabinho (Michel Joelsas), whom she essentially raised since he was a toddler. However, Val hasn’t seen her own biological daughter in a decade, and when Jessica (Camila Márdila) comes to visit, the young woman shocks her mother by acting like a houseguest.
