Winner of the Grand Prix at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, Italian filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher’s entrancing, richly textured drama centers on a family of beekeepers living in the isolated Tuscan countryside. Their household dynamic is disrupted by the arrival of a troubled teenage boy and a gaudy reality-television show intent on showcasing the family and their traditional lifestyle. Both intrusions interest the eldest daughter, who is struggling to find her footing in the world. Rohrwacher conveys her adolescent sense of wonder and confusion with graceful naturalism.
