Featured at the Mill Valley Film Festival, Norway’s submission for 2018 Oscar consideration is a psychological thriller with a supernatural edge. Eili Harboe stars as Thelma, a sheltered young woman who leaves her strict religious parents to attend university in Oslo. At school she finds herself intensely attracted to beautiful classmate Anja (Kaya Wilkins) and begins to experience mysterious seizures. As it becomes clear that the seizures are a symptom of inexplicable, often dangerous, supernatural abilities, Thelma must confront the implications of her powers. In the San Francisco Chronicle, critic Mick LaSalle wrote, “Trier has found a new way to depict and talk about these emotions and experiences that most human beings know and can never really get over.” In Norwegian with English subtitles.
