“The new wave of environmental documentaries, epitomized by local filmmakers Kevin White and Stephen Most’s smartly focused Wilder Than Wild: Fire, Forests and the Future, recognizes that it’s no longer necessary to galvanize public attention about an urgent problem. The relevant conversation is about solutions and strategies.”
KQED

This illuminating documentary highlights the issues facing our planet with regard to wildfires, revealing how fuel build-up and climate change have exposed Western wildlands to large-scale, high intensity wildfires, contributing to global warming and jeopardizing our forests. Filmmaker Kevin White traces a journey from the Rim Fire of 2013 to the wine country wildfires of 2017, exploring the proactive use of prescribed fire to reduce reliance on reactive fire suppression, meeting with a California tribe who have renewed their tradition of cultural fire, and scientists and resource managers with innovative ideas about how to restore and manage the lands we love. Director: Kevin White (US 2018) 58 min.

SCREENING FOLLOWED BY PANEL DISCUSSION WITH SPECIAL GUESTS:

ELIZABETH AZZUZ, member of the Yurok Tribe’s Cultural Fire Management Council

HUGH STAFFORD, Regional Ecologist for the USDA-Forest Service’s Pacific Southwest Region
