This widely acclaimed film, a fictional drama with a documentary feel, follows three teenagers from the slums of Guatemala on their way to the United States. Juan, a cocky but naïve young man, and Sara, passing as a boy, team up with a young Chiapas Indian boy Chauk, who doesn’t speak Spanish. Their story, fraught with danger, reflects those of many immigrants here in Marin who faced the same challenges. In Spanish and Tzotzil with English subtitles. Tom Wilson, executive director of Canal Alliance, will lead a discussion after the screening. Canal Alliance has been the leading service provider and community advocate for Marin’s immigrants for three decades.
