MARJORIE PRME
OPENS FRIDAY, AUG. 18
Set in the foreseeable future, this adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-nominated play stars Jon Hamm as Walter—that is, a hologram of Walter—who is a “Prime” programmed to exercise the memories of his widow Marjorie (Lois Smith), who is struggling with dementia. Marjorie’s daughter Tess (Geena Davis) and son-in-law Jon (Tim Robbins) have commissioned this artificial-intelligence therapy for her benefit, so in the interest of happiness, what harm would there be in a little manipulation? A splendid cast propels this intriguing drama that explores issues of loss and mortality while raising questions about our uneasy relationship with technology. Writer: Michael Almereyda, based on the play by Jordan Harrison. Director: Michael Almereyda. (US 2017) 98 min.
