SUNDAY, JAN. 9 • 3:00 PM AT THE SMITH RAFAEL FILM CENTER

Join violist RUTH KAHN and violinist MADS TOLLING for a dynamic musical afternoon involving special duets and their live accompaniment to Sherlock Jr., a silent Buster Keaton comedy. Kahn and Tolling will incorporate both classical and jazz influences into their performance. Following the film, Mads and Ruth will perform duos for violin and viola, including “Tango” and a world premiere suite by Clint Borzoni and a selection of dances by Béla Bartók.

Buster Keaton stars In Sherlock Jr. as a humble movie projectionist who dreams of becoming a great and celebrated detective. After he literally falls asleep during his day job, his subsequent victories in the dream world could put any sleuth to shame. Keaton’s beautiful acrobatics and dazzling visual tricks enhance this comic romp…in our unique presentation, with strings attached!

Renowned violist Ruth Kahn founded Musica Marin in 2014. A graduate of The Juilliard School and a 20-year veteran of the New York City Ballet Orchestra, she has performed with the orchestras of San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Ballet since relocating to the Bay Area.

Celebrated violinist Mads Tolling is a two-time Grammy winner and the 2016 DownBeat Critics Poll Rising Star Violinist. A veteran of Turtle Island Quartet and the Stanley Clarke band, Mads is currently a member of Bob Weir’s Wolf Bros Band and his own group, Mads Tolling & the Mads Men.
