“Blatantly dazzling, epic-scale filmmaking”
– Variety
“Hypnotic… goes beyond architecture to take us into the secret world of rocks and stones”
– Deadline
From acclaimed filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky (Gunda, Aquarela) comes a sweeping and contemplative cinematic journey into the very foundations of our built environment—concrete and stone. At once epic and intimate, Architecton explores how the materials we use to shape our world reflect both our ingenuity and our vulnerability.
Anchored by a striking landscape installation from renowned Italian architect Michele De Lucchi, Kossakovsky’s camera travels across time and terrain—from the ancient temples of Baalbek to the aftermath of Turkey’s devastating 2023 earthquake—revealing a haunting visual dialogue between past civilizations and our present crises.
With poetic clarity and awe-inspiring imagery, Architecton considers the traces we leave behind, the fragility of our structures, and the urgent need to rethink how we build. In a world facing climate catastrophe and ongoing destruction, Kossakovsky poses a vital question: how will we inhabit the world of tomorrow—and will we learn from the ruins we stand upon?
