SCREENING FOLLOWED BY A CONVERSATION WITH DIRECTOR YORGOS ZOIS
A film of astonishing restraint and emotional clarity, ARCADIA has emerged as one of the year’s most quietly spellbinding works: a genre-defying meditation on grief, love, the afterlife, and the liminal spaces in between.
When neurologist Katerina accompanies Yannis, a retired doctor, to a remote coastal resort to identify a car-crash victim, what begins as a somber duty becomes a metaphysical journey. Nightly visits to the rustic seaside bar called “Arcadia” unravel a tender, haunting tale of love, loss, acceptance — and what it means to truly let go.
At the heart of the film are two extraordinary performances by Angeliki Papoulia and Vangelis Mourikis, who have been described as “the soul of this melancholic ode to love,” bringing quiet strength and aching humanity to this metaphysical journey.
With its visually poetic minimalism, emotionally resonant performances, and quietly radical approach to genre, ARCADIA is a film that feels both intimate and otherworldly, rooted in characters yet expansive in themes. It explores the endurance of love beyond time, memory, and mortality.
