NOMINATED FOR SIX ACADEMY AWARDS
Boyhood offers a story all of us can recognize, that of the journey from child to adult, and dramatizes it in a way we’ve never seen before. Filmmaker Richard Linklater embraced the universal subject of growing up by filming a fictional story with the same cast over a period of 12 years, focusing on Mason (Ellar Coltrane) from age six to 18 and his relationship with his parents, played by Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, as well as his sister Sam (Lorelei Linklater). From moment to moment, scenes can seem familiar, even commonplace, but their cumulative effect is profound. A dramatic film that has no precedent, this intimate epic was greeted as a revelation at its Sundance premiere. Rated R for language including sexual references, and for teen drug and alcohol use. Writer/Director: Richard Linklater. (US 2014) 164 min.
