Veteran filmmaker Heddy Honigmann explores the close bond between animal and human in this poignant documentary portrait of six service dogs and their companions. Interviews shift back and forth among six people, including an African-Dutch army veteran with PTSD, two folks who are blind, a child with epilepsy and autism, and two adults confined to wheelchairs. Each describes the love and devotion they share with their helpers. We observe the dogs in action (Kaiko in particular is a whiz around the kitchen), as well as in repose. An ode to the fighting spirit of the people and animals portrayed, this warm documentary demonstrates, loud and clear, how these companions enhance our quality of life.
