Kirsten Johnson is the cameraperson behind some of the most important documentaries of recent decades, including Citizenfour, The Invisible War, Fahrenheit 9/11 and The Oath. For her first film as director, Johnson has assembled footage from various productions she’s shot over 25 years into a thoughtful and artful collage. Using creative juxtaposition and eschewing commentary, Johnson explores the complex relationships between filmmakers and their subjects, as well as the tension between camera objectivity and intervention. A work that combines documentary, autobiography and ethical inquiry, Cameraperson is both a moving glimpse into one filmmaker’s personal journey and a thoughtful examination of what it means to train a camera on the world. Several clips have English subtitles. Director: Kirsten Johnson. (US 2016) 102 min.
