Join us from 6pm-7pm for an art display and art activation provided by Youth in Arts at the MFR at the Rafael Theater – Limited capacity, first come first served
An evening of celebrating immigrant voices through visual and spoken storytelling in collaboration with Multicultural Center of Marin, Youth in Arts and Community Media Center of Marin. Please join us in a coming together of community partners and voices represented by the Undocumented Filmmakers Collective and Lideres del Futuro.
HEALING THROUGH A DREAM features an opening, live performance by dancer Oshalla Dee and spoken word artist David Calderon. The second part of the program features films by the Undocumented Filmmakers Collective, followed by a reading from Lideres Del Futuro from their book “The Journey of DACA Students Living in the United States Today: A Collection of Personal Stories.”
The evening will conclude with a Q&A with members of Lideres del Futuro Jose Ordonez, Erick Palafox, Rafael Vazquez Guzman and filmmaker Mabel Valdiviezo from the Undocumented Filmmakers Collective.
Youth in Arts will host an art activation around poster making before the event, and will display Los elementos (Lead Artists: Vico C. & Valerie B. and 7 Youth in Arts Teen Artists). In Guatemala, giant barriletes (kites) are flown over cemeteries in honor of deceased loved ones during Día de los Muertos. Bright and colorful, barriletes represent a human link to the spiritual world, carrying messages to the skies. Los elementos represent the four elements: fire, air, water and earth. In Maya worldview, they symbolize how each element influences and supports one another to maintain balance. The interconnectedness of all things urges us to seek harmony within ourselves and our environment.
