Visionary British filmmaker Ben Wheatley tackles the legendary 1975 novel by visionary science-fiction writer J.G. Ballard, creating a wild, visually dazzling and darkly funny portrait of a dystopian future that looks like the 1970s. Tom Hiddleston stars as Dr. Robert Laing, the newest resident of a high-tech concrete skyscraper in which the upper classes live on the higher floors and the others below. Mr. Royal (Jeremy Irons), the building’s architect, occupies the lavish penthouse. Laing first believes he’s found paradise, but as power outages and building flaws emerge, particularly on the lower floors, the high-rise becomes a battlefield in a literal class war. For mature audiences. With Elizabeth Moss, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans, James Purefoy, Keeley Hawes. Music: Portishead. Producer: Jeremy Thomas. Writer: Amy Jump. Director: Ben Wheatley. (UK 2015) 119 min.
