WITH SPECIAL GUEST JUSTIN KREUTZMANN, DIRECTOR AND SON OF FOUNDING GRATEFUL DEAD MEMBER BILL KREUTZMANN

They provide the backbeat, keep the tempo, and are part of a tradition that goes back to our earliest human ancestors — yet director Justin Kreutzmann wanted to know: Are drummers born that way or do they become that way? Kreutzmann knew where to start to ask the question; His father, Bill, along with Mickey Hart, have been the drummers for the Grateful Dead since the band’s beginning, and that got the filmmaker wondering about the dynamic of fathers and kids, about how great drummers learn from their predecessors (and influence subsequent generations), and create rhythms that resound across generations and leave audiences exhilarated. In LET THERE BE DRUMS!, Kreutzmann looks for the answer by speaking to some of the greatest drummers in music — as well as their children, many of whom followed in their dad’s drumstick style. With unbelievable footage of classic performances, rare and never-before-seen interviews and footage, and insightful commentary, LET THERE BE DRUMS! is a wild, informative journey to a sound that, as one drummer says, echoes and amplifies the sound of the human heartbeat.
