This remarkable documentary reviews the life and career of Marlon Brando in his own words. With narration culled from more than 200 hours of Brando’s private audiotapes, and illustrated by never-before-seen footage and photos, this revelatory, richly textured film includes Brando’s verbal analysis of many of his most famous roles, as well as his personal thoughts, recollections, insights and insecurities. The result is extraordinarily intimate, both an illuminating journey into self-analysis and a virtual master class in acting with one of the profession’s undisputed masters. If he hadn’t become an actor, Brando surmises, “I could have been a con man,” but the voice in this film is forthright and sincere. Writer/Director: Stevan Riley. (US/UK 2015) 97 min.
