NEW 35mm TINTED RESTORATION!
PRESENTED BY THE ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES
& THE CALIFORNIA FILM INSTITUTE
Hosted by Randy Haberkamp, Managing Director, Preservation and Foundation Programs
Live Piano Accompaniment by Michael Mortilla
Fresh from its world premiere in Los Angeles, we present the 1925 Mary Pickford classic Little Annie Rooney, fully restored in 35mm by the Academy Film Archive through the Academy’s partnership with the Mary Pickford Foundation.
Popularly known as “America’s Sweetheart,” Mary Pickford was an actor, writer, producer- and possibly the most powerful woman in Hollywood- when she cast herself as a tenement spitfire in this silent comedy-tearjerker. Pickford’s fans loved her in juvenile roles, and here she organizes street urchins to help track down the killer of her policeman father. Co-starring William Haines and directed by William Beaudine, Little Annie Rooney was a smash hit and a wonderful showcase for Pickford’s talents.
The Academy’s restoration of Little Annie Rooney is sourced from a tinted nitrate print from the Library of Congress and contains some longer scenes, different camera set-ups and multiple visual effects not seen in the previously available black and white version. Film approximately 94 min.
