The great American character actor Harry Dean Stanton passed away on the eve of his new film’s release. Lucky follows the spiritual journey of a 90-year-old atheist and the eccentric folks who inhabit his rural desert town. Having out-lived and out-smoked his contemporaries, Lucky finds himself at the precipice of life and thrust into a journey of self-exploration reaching for enlightenment. Co-starring David Lynch as a rancher-friend bemoaning the escape of his pet tortoise, Lucky is at once a love letter to the life and career of Stanton, as well as a quirky and often humorous meditation on mortality, loneliness, spirituality and human connection. With Ron Livingston, Ed Begley Jr., Tom Skerritt, James Darren, Beth Grant. Writers: Logan Sparks, Drago Sumonja. Director: John Carroll Lynch. (US 2017) 88 min.
