MONDAY, MARCH 23 • 7:00
An intimate and unconventional portrait of iconic American designer Marc Jacobs, directed by Academy Award–winning filmmaker Sofia Coppola.
Jacobs and Coppola first met in early 1990s New York, when both were emerging voices helping define the cultural mood of the decade. Jacobs had just debuted his infamous “Grunge” collection before launching his namesake label with Robert Duffy, while Coppola was already moving through the downtown creative scene—collaborating with artists, producing fashion shows, and beginning the path that would lead to her career as a filmmaker.
Their friendship grew alongside their creative lives, each shaping the aesthetics of their era in different but deeply connected ways. In Marc by Sofia, Coppola captures Jacobs at work as he prepares his Spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection, while reflecting on the music, films, art, and cultural influences that shaped him—from The Supremes to Fassbinder.
Blending documentary observation with Coppola’s signature collage-like style, the film becomes more than a portrait of a designer. It’s a look at a lifelong creative bond and a shared devotion to fashion, art, and youth culture that continues to inspire generations.
