In his first visit to the Rafael, world-renowned jazz film archivist Mark Cantor will present a treasure trove of rare clips from his vast collection. He will screen and discuss priceless performances by Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Count Basie, Stan Kenton and many others. Based in the Los Angeles area, Mark Cantor has collected more than 4,000 films and clips over the years and is considered one of the world’s best and most knowledgeable resources for documenting and preserving our heritage of jazz on film. Basic admission includes the 2-hour program of screenings and discussion, and the higher ticket price includes a wine reception following the program, with live music by pianist Ken Cook.
