The winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival stars Chloë Grace Moretz as a teenager sent to a gay conversion therapy center after being caught on prom night in the back seat of a car with another girl. Run by the strict Dr. Lydia Marsh (Jennifer Ehle) and her brother Reverend Rick (John Gallagher Jr.), God’s Promise is a residence primarily offering Cameron intolerance and denial, until she bonds with fellow misfits Jane (Sasha Lane) and Adam Red Eagle (Forrest Goodluck). Their touching and humorous tale could be said to resemble a John Hughes movie for the era of LBGTQ awareness. Writers: Desiree Akhavan, Cecilia Frugiuele, based on the novel by Emily M. Danforth. Director: Desiree Akhavan. (US 2018) 91 min.
