In his first film in four years, Eddie Murphy delivers an artful and understated performance as Henry Joseph Church, a quiet man with a mysterious past who enters and enriches the lives of a single mother and daughter. Britt Robertson stars as Charlie, whose ailing mother (Natascha McElhone) receives the services of a cook as a surprise gift from a former lover. But Church transcends his kitchen talents to become an essential part of the family, in a warm and tender story spanning 15 years, from the mid-1960s through the 70s, and brought to the screen by veteran filmmaker Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy, Tender Mercies). Rated PG-13. With Xavier Samuel, Lucy Fry. Writer: Susan McMartin. Director: Bruce Beresford. (US 2016) 104 min.
