SCREENING FOLLOWED BY A CONVERSATION WITH SEAT 31‘s KIMBERLY REED, ZOOEY ZEPHYR & ERIN REED

ALL GUESTS WILL RECEIVE A SMALL POPCORN & SODA

Jenna (she/her, non-binary), a queer artist from a small town in Russia, dresses in otherworldly costumes made from junk and tape, and protests the government on the streets of Moscow.

Born and raised on the harsh streets of Magadan, a frigid outpost of the Soviet gulag, Jenna is only 21. She stages radical performances in public that become a new form of art and activism. By doing that, she wants to change people’s perception of beauty and queerness and bring attention to the harassment of the LGBTQ+ community. The performances – often dark, strange, evocative, and queer at their core – are a manifestation of Jenna’s subconscious. But they come at a price.

In Russian with English subtitles
Director Agniia Galdanova (US/France 2024) 98 min.

PRECEDED BY SHORT FILM: SEAT 31: ZOOEY ZEPHYR

SEAT 31: ZOOEY ZEPHYR delves into a pivotal and deeply personal moment in the life of Montana state representative Zooey Zephyr, a transgender woman who was expelled from the Montana House of Representatives in April 2023. The expulsion came after Zephyr vocally opposed a bill aimed at restricting transgender rights.

At its core, the film addresses the challenges, hostility and discrimination faced by the transgender community, particularly in conservative states like Montana, but it’s also a true celebration of trans and queer identities.

Director Kimberly Reed (US 2024) 15 min.
