A decidedly modern Christmas tale filmed entirely with iPhones on the streets of L.A., this stylish, rip-roaring comedy-drama follows two transgender sex workers, Sin-Dee (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) and Alexandra (Mya Taylor), on a Christmas-Eve odyssey to track down the boyfriend-pimp (James Ransone) unfaithful to Sin-Dee during her month in jail. Their eventful odyssey leads them through various subcultures of Los Angeles, including an Armenian family dealing with their own repercussions of infidelity. David Edelstein in New York Magazine wrote “It’s everything an entertaining, old-fashioned, mainstream Hollywood comedy should be and no longer is,” and in Vogue, Peter Macia raved: “Tangerine may not be the summer comedy we asked for, but it just might be the summer comedy we need.” Rated R.
