Every year in the lead-up to the May DocLands Documentary Film Festival, there are a few documentaries being released theatrically — documentaries that we would consider quintessential DocLands’ films, but that will be released before the Festival takes place. Documentaries that shine in terms of story and production value.  Documentaries that fit perfectly into one or more of DocLands programming strands The Great Outdoors, Art of Impact, and Wonderlands. The DocLands Presents series will showcase just a few of these films.

In the heart of the Tibetan highlands, multi-award-winning nature photographer Vincent Munier guides writer Sylvain Tesson on his quest to document the infamously elusive snow leopard. Munier introduces Tesson to the subtle art of waiting from a blind spot, tracking animals, and finding the patience to catch sight of the beasts. Through their journey in the Tibetan peaks, inhabited by invisible presences, the two men ponder humankind’s place amongst the magnificent creatures and glorious landscapes they encounter along the way. This meditative excursion into nature is set to an atmospheric score by Warren Ellis with Nick Cave. In French with English subtitles. Directors Marie Amiguet, Vincent Munier (France 2021) 92 min.
