THIS AIN’T NO MOUSE MUSIC
Winner of the Audience Award at the Mill Valley Film Festival, this documentary by Chris Simon and Maureen Gosling is a portrait of a Bay Area treasure: roots-music icon Chris Strachwitz, founder of Arhoolie Records and an archaeologist of deep American music. For the last 50 years, he has carried his tape recorder to sharecrop shacks and roadside honkytonks, bringing Cajun music out of Louisiana, Tex-Mex out of Texas, blues out of the country. We join him for a hip-shaking stomp from Texas to New Orleans, from Cajun country to Appalachia, on a passionate quest to preserve the musical soul of America. Featuring Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt, Flaco Jimenez, Michael Doucet, Richard Thompson, The Pine Leaf Boys and others. Directors: Chris Simon, Maureen Gosling. (US 2013) 92 min.
In Person: Filmmaker Chris Simon & Bonnie Raitt
